Identification Card, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered World Trade Center identification card issued to Lorraine Mary Greene Lee at Aon. The card includes a color photograph of Lee on the right side and her name printed as "Lee | Lorraine M." on the left. The card is in good condition and enclosed in a plastic sleeve with a ball-chain lanyard. A thick blue-colored electronic key card is behind the photo ID in the sleeve. "Westinghouse Security Electronics" is printed on the electronic card.
- Historical Notes
- Born on Staten Island, Lorraine Mary Greene Lee lived in Eltingville with her husband, Johnny. The couple attended tai chi classes together and took annual cruises to Bermuda. Lorraine also served as a lector at her church, reading aloud at Sunday services. On September 11, Lorraine was on the 101st floor of the South Tower, where she worked as an administrative assistant at Aon Corporation. She was 37 years old.
Curator's Comment
The Port Authority significantly improved its identification card system after the 1993 bombing, adding encoded photo identification cards issued to tenants and registered guests. These changes made it increasingly difficult for unauthorized persons or vehicles to gain access to the complex. At that time, this level of security screening was unusual.
