- Six small pieces of paper left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Antonio Melendez. The pieces of paper are torn from a larger piece of notebook paper. One Spanish word is handwritten in pink ink on each piece of paper. When assembled the message reads: "Hay Gente Aun Que Te Aman" which translates as: "There are people who still love you."
- Historical Notes
- Antonio Melendez grew up in Acatlán, Mexico. He lived with his wife, Julia, and their four young children in Hunts Point in the Bronx. Antonio worked in the kitchen at Windows on the World. At the end of his workday, rather than eating a staff meal at the restaurant, he would go home to have dinner with his family. On September 11, Antonio was at work on the North Tower’s 106th floor. He was 30 years old.
Curator's Comment
These notes were left on the N-70 parapet of the North Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for Antonio Melendez on September 11, 2015. The notes were folded and placed in the hollows of the name.
