- Brooklyn-born Jay Magazine lived in New York City with his wife, Susan, and their two children. He cheered at his teenage daughter’s soccer games and taught his school-age son to make his signature hot salsa. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Jay was a catering manager at Windows on the World. On September 11, he was at work on the North Tower’s 106th floor. Jay was 48 years old.
Curator's Comment
As a catering sales manager at Windows on the World restaurant high in the North Tower, Jay Magazine was working literally at the top of his profession. Trained as a chef at the Culinary Institute of America, he later shifted into catering to spend more time with his family. In 2003, Jay’s sister received this miniature silver scoop enclosed in a crescent-shaped leather box. Windows on the World had distributed similar scoops, along with tiny candies, to special clients during an earlier holiday season.
