- Red, white, and blue crocheted afghan given to the family of Karl T. Smith, Sr. There are several paper note cards, attached by yarn, with typed or handwritten names of the individuals who crocheted each square.
- Historical Notes
- Red Bank, New Jersey, native Karl Smith lived in Little Silver. He and his wife, Joanne, had two teenage sons. A former U.S. Marine, Karl played soccer and was training for a triathlon. He was also a fan of rock bands such as Cream and Deep Purple and often played along on air guitar. On September 11, Karl, a bond broker at Cantor Fitzgerald, was at work on the North Tower’s 104th floor. He was 44 years old.
