Collected Dust
- Description
- Clear plastic drinking cup containing fine gray dust. Multiple pieces of opaque surgical tape cover the top of the cup, sealing the contents inside. On top of the tape is written "09-11 | 01 | WTC | Blast" in black marker. The cup has dents in some places and is stored within a plastic bag.
- Historical Notes
- Immediately after the collapse of the Twin Towers, layers of thick gray dust and ash coated streets, vehicles, windows, and the interiors of homes and offices throughout lower Manhattan. The dust was a presence for months. Some people collected dust in an impulse to preserve and document what they experienced.
