Flight Attendant Wings

- American Airlines flight attendant wings lapel pin belonging to Karyn Ramsey, friend and colleague of Sara Elizabeth Low. In the center of the wings is the American Airlines logo. On the back of the pin is engraved text: "Afghan War | Sara Low | 2002."
- Historical Notes
- A native of Batesville, Arkansas, Sara Low moved into her own apartment in Boston in 2001. She and her mother spent the summer decorating the place. From an early age, Sara often joined her father on his small plane. After earning a business degree, she went to work in 1999 as a flight attendant for American Airlines. On September 11, Sara was working aboard Flight 11. She was 28 years old.
Curator's Comment
Following a memorial service for Sara Elizabeth Low, flight attendant Karyn Ramsey pinned her own service wings on Sara’s father, Mike Low. He wore “Karyn’s wings,” as he referred to them, for weeks before asking a friend at the Pentagon if the small keepsake might be sent to Afghanistan with a soldier fighting in Operation Enduring Freedom. Sergeant Mark Baker, a member of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), wore “Karyn’s wings” under enemy fire.
