- Jeffrey Coombs grew up in Dedham, Massachusetts, and lived in Abington with his wife, Christie, and their three school-age children. Jeffrey was a nature lover who planned activities outdoors with his family and was set to hike the Grand Canyon for 10 days in late September. On September 11, Jeffrey, a security analyst at Compaq, boarded Flight 11 heading to California on business. He was 42 years old.

The number "143" on the bib was selected for the number of letters in each word in the phrase "I Love You."
