Curator's Comment
Barbara Olson, a political commentator and lawyer, was heading to Los Angeles on 9/11 for a meeting with the owners of Pillar Rock Vineyards in California’s Napa Valley. After Barbara’s death aboard hijacked Flight 77, the vineyard owners decided to commemorate her life with their entire vintage of cabernet sauvignon from the 2000 season. Each bottle of that wine was wrapped with a black ribbon affixed by a medallion sticker that reads “In Loving Memory | Barbara Olson | September 11 2001.” According to the Pillar Rock website, the Barbara Olson cabernet sauvignon will “surely age well for decades."
