Stokes Basket

Description: Stokes rescue basket, orange in color, with interior padding and strap attachments. The basket is dirty, covered in scratches, and has "L43" written on the sides for FDNY Ladder Company 43. "9-11-01 Bring me Home Bro" is also written on the side.
Historical Notes: Rescue baskets, or sleds, usually brought to accident scenes to transport the injured to safety, were used to carry the remains of victims to temporary morgues around Ground Zero. Rituals for ceremonially escorting recovered human remains from Ground Zero, such as stoppage of work and honor guards, evolved over time.
