- Framed painting titled Freedom New York, 2005 by Frank Dammers. The painting depicts the lower Manhattan skyline as seen from Brooklyn across the East River. In bright and bold colors, the painting features the Brooklyn Bridge on the right, Tower 1 of the new World Trade Center, Pier 17, and other landmark buildings of lower Manhattan.

While vacationing in Mexico in 2004, Dutch artist Frank Dammers met a group of 9/11 survivors. Dammers, who had survived serious automobile accidents in 1991 and 1993, identified with the group’s struggles to move forward after their experiences. The artist decided to create a tribute to the resilience and optimism of New York City.
Freedom New York offers a view of lower Manhattan from Brooklyn. On the right, the Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River. At the time Dammers was painting this, the rebuilding of the World Trade Center after 9/11 was only beginning. Yet he envisioned a bright, colorful future for the city, with One World Trade Center already standing tall in the skyline.
