T-Shirt
- Description
- Gray T-shirt created for a memorial event held in memory of John P. Skala. On the left breast of the shirt is an American flag, red rose, police shield, and printed text: "Police | Unity Tour | 2002 | Supporter." On the back of the shirt is an image of a shield with an American flag and a silhouette of first responders. Text inside the shield reads: "Remembering | September 11, 2001 | John Skala | Port Authority Police Department." Printed next to the image are the names of event sponsors.
- Historical Notes
- A native of Passaic, New Jersey, John Skala lived in Clifton. In his free time, he volunteered at the New Jersey Special Olympics and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. He also liked to sing at karaoke bars. A PAPD officer, John was assigned to the Lincoln Tunnel and worked part time as a paramedic. On September 11, Officer Skala reported to the towers from a New Jersey courtroom. He was 31 years old.
