- George Merino came to the United States as a child from Matanzas, Cuba. As an adult, he lived in Bayside, Queens, with his wife, Olga, and their 11-year-old daughter. George followed the news from Cuba on a shortwave radio and taught his daughter about his native land. He was a securities analyst at Fiduciary Trust. On September 11, George was at work the South Tower’s 90th floor. He was 39 years old.
