Religious Pendant
- Description
- St. Christopher pendant on a metal chain belonging to Colin R. McArthur. The pendant features an engraving of St. Christopher holding the Christ Child on his shoulder.
- Historical Notes
- A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Colin McArthur immigrated as an adult to Canada, where he met and married his wife, Brenda. Both worked for Aon Corporation and in 1997 transferred to its New York office and settled in Howell, New Jersey. Colin, a senior vice president, stayed when Brenda left the company in 2000. On September 11, he was at work on the 104th floor of the South Tower. He was 52 years old.
Curator's Comment
Shortly after they married, Colin McArthur’s wife, Brenda, gave him this pendant with an image of Saint Christopher, patron saint of travelers. Brenda felt the medallion’s subject suited him because of how important travel was in his life, rather than for any religious significance. Born in Scotland, Colin moved to Canada in 1977 and spent much of his career on the road or in the air. Brenda remembered his wittiness and friendly nature, noting that he had made friends all around the world. Whenever he was on a trip, he wore the Saint Christopher pendant.
