Bracelet
- Description
- Woven memorial bracelet created in memory of Ronnie Lee Henderson. The bracelet strap is made of colored woven laces with an engraved tag with text: "S/SGT Rodney Henderson | USMC 9/11/01 | World Trade Center." The bracelet attaches with a plastic clasp.
- Historical Notes
- Charleston, West Virginia native Ronnie Henderson lived in Newburgh, New York, with his wife, Shirley. They had four children. Ronnie served with the U.S. Marines in the Vietnam War and the National Guard in the Gulf War. A member of the Vulcan Society, a black firefighters’ group, he worked with FDNY Engine Company 279. On September 11, Firefighter Henderson responded to the towers. He was 52 years old.
Curator's Comment
Time spent with Ronnie Henderson was “a big barrel of laughs,” his friend Harry Almodovar remembered. The two met in 1979, and became close friends while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve in Brooklyn. They worked together on communications projects and exchanged stories about their previous service in the Vietnam War. After 9/11, Almodovar commissioned this bracelet to memorialize his friend of more than two decades. He wore the bracelet until donating it to the 9/11 Memorial Museum in 2016.
