- Description
- Silk banner for Camp Polk belonging to Anthony Savas. The banner is white with blue fringe and a printed image of two army officers in uniform. At the top is a printed image of the coat of arms of the United States with the shield, a bald eagle holding an olive branch and thirteen arrows in its talons, and two American flags. "CAMP POLK | Leesville, LA" is printed at the bottom. In the center is a poem: "Friendship | Oh, the world is wide | and the world is grand | And there's little or nothing new; | But the sweetest thing | is the grip of the hand | of the friend that's tried and true."
- Historical Notes
- Manhattan-born Anthony Savas lived in Astoria, Queens, with his wife of 42 years, Phaedra. They had three children and two grandchildren, and Anthony and Phaedra enjoyed hosting them at their Long Island beach house. Anthony worked as a construction inspector for the Port Authority. On September 11, he was on his way to his office on the North Tower’s 88th floor. He was 72 years old.
