- Shadowbox created in memory of Richard J. Morgan. The black-framed box contains a mounted key with a key-ring identification tag labeled "WTC | Elevator." Above the key is a printed image of the ConEdison logo. Below the key is printed text: "WTC | STEAM METER ROOM."
- Historical Notes
- Native New Yorker Richard Morgan lived in Glen Rock, New Jersey, with his wife, Patricia. They had four grown children. A vice president of Con Edison’s emergency management department, Richard still descended into manholes and basements to work with his crews. On September 11, he was trying to reach an electrical substation and help firefighters navigate the system near the towers. He was 66 years old.
Curator's Comment
In June 2012, a dedication ceremony was held in the steam meter room of the newly constructed 9/11 Memorial. A wall plaque was unveiled in honor of Richard Morgan, a 9/11 victim who died while trying to direct first responders to the electrical substation at the World Trade Center. At the dedication ceremony, former ConEd colleagues of Morgan presented the Memorial Museum with this shadowbox containing the specially mounted original key to the World Trade Center Steam Meter room.
