- Description
- New York State Courts embroidered uniform patch left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of William H. Thompson. The patch features the coat of arms for the state of New York in the center depicting the personifications of Liberty and Justice. Text embroidered in white against a blue background reads: "NEW YORK STATE | COURTS." The patch has a yellow border.
- Historical Notes
- Bronx native William Thompson resided in New York City. His physical fitness regimen included playing basketball with his two sons, running regularly, and climbing stairs. A court officer with the NYS Unified Court System, William was also an instructor at the Court Officers Academy. On September 11, Captain Thompson responded to the South Tower from the Academy a few blocks away. He was 51 years old.

This patch was left on the S-26 parapet of the South Pool on the 9/11 Memorial for William H. Thompson on September 11, 2013.
