Portable Lamp
- Description
- Wolflite brand portable lamp, orange in color. The lamp has a handle like a flashlight and short legs to prop up the lamp on a surface. "R+D" is handwritten on the top by the handle. Below the handle is a placard with information about the manufacturer and calibration: "The Wolf Safety Lamp Co. LTD. | Sheffield England | Wolflite Handlamp No SLH-SB8."

After learning that a plane had struck the North Tower, Lieutenant Lawrence Monachelli and his fellow members of the FDNY Research and Development Unit loaded a van with equipment and drove to the World Trade Center. Minutes after their arrival, the South Tower collapsed. Monachelli took refuge in the lobby of a nearby building. He later began searching for survivors, using this portable lamp, which was designed for hazardous conditions.
