- Description
- New York Knicks basketball jersey donated in memory of Jose Juan Marrero. The jersey is blue and orange with "NEW YORK" and the number "3" printed in orange and outlined in white on the front. The NBA and Adidas logos are printed on the front of the jersey as well. "MARRERO" is printed in white on the back with a large orange number "3" printed below the name. The "NYK" Knicks logo is printed at the top above the name.
- Historical Notes
- Native New Yorker Jose Marrero lived in Old Bridge, New Jersey. He and his wife, Jodi, had three children, and Jose also had a daughter from a previous relationship. Resuming a childhood hobby, Jose raised pigeons and planned to race them. A facilities manager at Euro Brokers, he was the fire warden for the South Tower’s 84th floor. On September 11, Jose was seen helping people evacuate. He was 32 years old.
Curator's Comment
At work, Jose Marrero was known for the jingling sound of his ring of keys. Coworkers heard it before they saw him. They also remembered his thoughtfulness: making certain the company kitchen prepared individual treats for colleagues on their birthdays. At home, his family recalled him singing karaoke and watching movies with his children, as well as following the New York Knicks. They donated this jersey to represent his love of the team.
