Boots
- Description
- Thinsulate brand pair of black leather steel-toed boots. The boots are heavily worn, with the leather scuffed and scratched. The left boot is missing its metatarsal guard and the area where the front of the guard was attached is torn and appears to be melted.
- Historical Notes
- Thomas McHale, Jr., was an ironworker and a Port Authority Police officer who assisted with the evacuation of the World Trade Center following the February 26, 1993, bombing. He was promoted to detective on the Joint Terrorism Task Force and responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11. He assisted in the evacuation and survived the collapse of the Twin Towers. McHale volunteered in his capacity as an ironworker at Ground Zero during the nine-month recovery. He wore these boots while working at the site. They are the last pair of boots he wore there.
