- Hardcover leather-bound firehouse company journal filled with handwritten messages and signatures left by people visiting FDNY firehouse Ladder 4/Engine 54/Battalion 9 following September 11, 2001. Many of the messages express condolences, support, and encouragement.
- Historical Notes
- The firehouse shared by FDNY Engine Company 54, Ladder Company 4, and Battalion 9 attracted many visitors after 9/11 who expressed their support for the firefighters. Members of the firehouse placed a blank journal, typically used to record the companies’ daily activities, on a table in front of the building for people to sign. Messages of condolence and encouragement soon filled its pages. By the end of November 2001, visitors had filled four journals.
