- Description
- Recovered New York State Courts Captain badge belonging to William H. Thompson. The badge includes the state seal of New York in the center with text: "NEW YORK STATE | COURTS | CAPTAIN." The badge is damaged, misshapen, and discolored.
- Historical Notes
- Bronx native William Thompson resided in New York City. His physical fitness regimen included playing basketball with his two sons, running regularly, and climbing stairs. A court officer with the NYS Unified Court System, William was also an instructor at the Court Officers Academy. On September 11, Captain Thompson responded to the South Tower from the Academy a few blocks away. He was 51 years old.
