T-Shirt
- Description
- Dark blue T-shirt created in memory of William R. Johnston. On the left breast of the shirt is a Maltese cross with text in the center: "1246" and "F.D." in the top crossbar, and "E-6" in the bottom crossbar. "E276" is printed in the left crossbar, and "L156" is printed in the right crossbar. "Rest in Peace" is printed above the cross, and "Billy Johnston" is printed below. The back of the shirt includes text: "FDNY" at the top, and "9-11-01" with the number 11 rendered as the Twin Towers with an American flag as the antenna on the North Tower.
- Historical Notes
- Queens native William Johnston lived in North Babylon, Long Island. He had worked for the Transit Authority as an ironworker before joining the FDNY in 2000. William played football and softball on FDNY teams and also played soccer in a Long Island league. On September 11, Firefighter Johnston responded to the North Tower with Engine Company 6. He was 31 years old.
