Curator's Comment
For three-year-old Dana and eight-year-old Zoe, bedtime revolved around stories and stuffed toys. First, parents Leslie A. Whittington and Charles S. Falkenberg would read to Dana. After Dana was asleep with her favorite stuffed toy lamb, Zoe and her parents read longer books, such as the Harry Potter series. Most of the sisters’ belongings, including this pair of dinosaurs and this bear, were placed in storage in anticipation of the family’s move to Australia for Leslie’s university fellowship. After 9/11, Zoe and Dana’s grandfather found and saved these two toys. The family, according to the sisters’ grandmother, “loved each other, loved being together, loved books, loved life.”
