- Navy blue T-shirt created in memory of David M. Weiss. On the left breast of the shirt is a red Maltese cross with printed text in the cross: "FD | 9489 | NY" and "In Memory of David M. Weiss" printed below the cross. On the back of the shirt is the image of an eagle carrying a shield with printed text: "RESCUE 1 | Capt. Terence Hatton Lt. Dennis Mojica | FF Joseph Angelini, Sr. FF Michael Montesi | FF Gary Geidel FF Gerard Nevins | FF William Henry FF Patrick O'Keefe | FF Kenneth Marino FF Brian Sweeney | FF David W. Weiss | 9-11-01."
- Historical Notes
- Hempstead, Long Island, native David Weiss lived in New Hampton, New York. He had two teenagers and spent time with his companion, Kathryn. David worked as an ironworker before joining the FDNY. In 1997, he was commended for attempting to rescue a driver whose car had rolled into the East River. On September 11, Firefighter Weiss responded to the towers with his unit, Rescue Company 1. He was 41 years old.
