Curator's Comment
Jon Grabowski met his wife, Erika, at the University of Maryland while they were working at a café called Bagel Place. Both were shy, but they connected when Jon was able to explain a philosophical concept that Erika was struggling to understand in class. The couple continued to bond over discussions of favorite books, such as The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Jon noted his work shifts at Bagel Place in his daily planner from 1991, which also contains entries that reflect his passion for music, photography, and academia.
