- Print photograph taken by David Scharf using a scanning electron microscope that depicts Ground Zero dust at the microscopic level—specifically ash, concrete dust, and fiber glass. This particular image contains dark hues of purple, green, and gray.

- By placing samples of World Trade Center dust into a scanning electron microscope, electronic engineer and photographer David Scharf created magnified images of the dust. The photos revealed some of the dust’s content, including fiberglass and asbestos. “I would hate to breathe that stuff in,” Scharf later stated in an interview. “And I can see why people had so much problems with their lungs, just looking at this.”
