- Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, native Maynard Spence lived in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife, Barbara, and his two daughters. Maynard often hid love notes for Barbara around the house. He worked as a construction safety consultant at Marsh & McLennan’s Georgia offices. On September 11, he was in New York City for a meeting at Marsh’s offices on the North Tower’s 100th floor. He was 42 years old.
