Necklace

- Handmade memorial necklace created in memory of John August Santore. The necklace is made of leather cord looped through a metal washer that has "JS | 9 11 01" embossed on the front. A metal rim tag is attached to the washer with "In memory of John Santore FDNY" handwritten on the tag.
- Historical Notes
- John Santore was born in New Brighton, Staten Island. He and his wife, Frances, lived in West Brighton and had two daughters. Known around town as the Mayor of West Brighton, John led the effort to build a local art museum. On September 11, Firefighter Santore—a 20-year FDNY veteran and senior member of Ladder Company 5—was evacuating the North Tower’s 37th floor. He was 49 years old.
