- Description
- Christmas greeting card left at the 9/11 Memorial in memory of Joseph Patrick Spor, Jr. The card depicts a three-dimensional cut-out of Christmas trees in a snowy scene. "Christmas Blessings" is printed at the bottom. Attached to the card’s top is a wood ornament featuring a cut-out of a tree and an attached plastic evergreen sprig. A label is attached to the ornament with handwritten text that reads: "To: Joe Spor | From: Your sisters." On the back of the card is a handwritten note: "Merry Christmas | Little brother. | Not a day goes by | that I don't miss | your smile, humor | and love. Love you | Always! | Bob." A small photo of Spor is taped to the card’s corner.
- Historical Notes
- Bronx native Joseph Spor lived in Somers, New York, with his wife, Colleen, and their four young children. Joseph owned a contracting business specializing in carpentry. An FDNY firefighter for seven years, in August 2001, he was assigned to Rescue Company 3, where his father had once served. On September 11, Firefighter Spor responded to the towers with his new unit. He was 35 years old.
