Purse, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered small leather purse belonging to Rosemary A. Smith. The body of the purse is black leather with a deep maroon crocodile leather top flap and thin cross body strap. The detail on the flap is a silver filigree. The purse is covered in dust and detritus and stiffened from prolonged exposure to the elements. The contents of the purse included cards and several photographs.
- Historical Notes
- Brooklyn-born Rosemary Smith lived in Travis, Staten Island, with her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Rosemary spoke of one day starting a business making chocolates. In the meantime, she filled orders from friends for homemade candy and worked at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood as a switchboard operator. On September 11, she was at her office on the North Tower’s 57th floor. She was 61 years old.
