Curator's Comment
Simon Dedvukaj grew up in the Bronx, New York, fascinated by his grandfather’s stories of the family’s Albanian homeland. Simon became an expert on their Albanian heritage, wearing traditional clothing and answering his siblings’ historical questions. His sister helped him make another important connection to Albania. At a wedding there, she met Elizabeta, a woman she knew would be a perfect match for Simon. After getting to know each other in Albania, Simon and Elizabeta married in 2000.
