Copy of The Police Officer's Bible. The bible is bound in black bonded leather with a slide-tab closure, gilded page edges, and the officer's badge insignia on the cover. The bible contains devotions, prayers, and suggested Scripture readings particular to the work of police officers.

Historical Notes

Jack O'Brian Poe is a Southern Baptist minister and a chaplain for the Oklahoma City Police Department since 1984. On April 19, 1995, Poe heard an explosion while at his home, located about 8 miles away from the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Poe learned more about the Oklahoma City bombing incident on his police radio and drove to the scene, where he and other chaplains aided rescue and recovery workers.

On September 11, 2001, after learning about the World Trade Center attacks, Poe was part of a group of Oklahoma City chaplains who flew to New York on an Angel Flight. Working mostly at a temporary morgue at Ground Zero, Poe delivered blessings for recovered human remains and offered counseling for rescue and recovery workers, many of whom were searching for missing loved ones. On September 20th, Poe delivered a sermon at a memorial service held at the New York City Police Memorial in Battery Park City. Poe’s sermon was published by Holman Bible Publishers in The Police Officer’s Bible.
