- Historical Notes
- On the morning of September 11, 2001, Jin-Sup Lee was covering Fashion Week at Bryant Park for the Staten Island Advance. He had with him his photography equipment as well as a step ladder to help him shoot within the crowded media areas. Upon hearing from another photojournalist that the North Tower had been hit by a plane, Lee decided to take the subway downtown to take photos for this breaking news story. After packing up his equipment, he made his way to the Times Square – 42 Street station and purchased a ticket, paying $3 in cash. The receipt of that transaction was time-stamped 9:10 a.m. approximately 7 minutes after hijacked Flight 175 had crashed into the South Tower, confirming that these were not accidents but a coordinated terrorist attack.
