Yellow notepad belonging to Paige Marie Farley-Hackel. "Gratitude List" is handwritten at the top of the first page of the notepad, which contains several groupings of five things Farley-Hackel was grateful for. The list on the first page is dated 5/95, and the first set of five things include:
1) Mom
2) Allan
3) Miracle of birth
4) Sobriety
5) Ruthie - Historical Notes
- Framingham, Massachusetts, native Paige Farley-Hackel lived in Newton with her husband, Allan. A writer and motivational speaker, on September 11 she boarded Flight 11 for Los Angeles, where she was to meet with producers of a radio show. At the same time, Paige's friend, Ruth McCourt, and her daughter, Juliana McCourt, boarded Flight 175. The three planned to meet in California. Paige was 46 years old.
Curator's Comment
After overcoming personal difficulties in her twenties, Paige Farley-Hackel devoted herself to mindfulness and meditation. Every day, Paige wrote down five things for which she was grateful. According to her husband, Allan, this practice reflected her innate optimism. Paige hoped to help others by launching a radio show called Spiritually Speaking. On 9/11, she was on her way to Los Angeles to meet with radio producers and spend time with her best friend, Ruth Magdaline McCourt, and goddaughter, Juliana Valentine McCourt. That morning, Paige boarded Flight 11, and the McCourts boarded Flight 175.
