Collected Dust
- Description
- Small glass canning jar known as a "lightning jar" with a glass lid, rubber ring, and wire bail/clamp. Inside the jar is a small amount of World Trade Center dust. "9/11/01 ASH" is handwritten on a yellow piece of paper and taped to the outside of the jar.
- Historical Notes
- Immediately after the collapse of the Twin Towers, layers of thick gray dust and ash coated streets, vehicles, windows, and the interiors of homes and offices throughout lower Manhattan. The dust was a presence for months. Some people collected dust in an impulse to preserve and document what they experienced.
