Baseball Bat

- Wood baseball bat belonging to Martin Michael Boryczewski. The bat's barrel includes printed text that reads: "PRO/MODEL MB-G372 | Marty Boryczewski." The manufacturer's logo in the bat's middle section contains text that reads: "GLOMAR ENTERPRISES | made in Fullerton, Ca., U.S.A | "A Sure Hit"." Several fractures run much of the length of the bat handle. The number "24" is handwritten in black marker on the knob of the bat.
- Historical Notes
- New Jersey native Martin Boryczewski grew up in Parsippany and lived in Hoboken. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and dreamed of becoming a fly-fishing guide in Montana. After playing minor league baseball for four years, Martin switched careers, becoming a financial trader. On September 11, he was at work at Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor of the North Tower. He was 29 years old.
Curator's Comment
Martin Boryczewski enjoyed dirt bike racing and hockey, but pursued baseball professionally. He played on minor league teams in the U.S. and Canada, including affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Detroit Tigers. Martin devoted evening hours to perfecting his swing in the dark, reasoning that it would make daytime batting easier. He left baseball to follow a new dream in finance. He wrote in a poem: “This trip you are on will travel by fast, so make the most of it [and] regret nothing from your past.”
