-
The U.S. Department of Defense issued medals to recognize service in post-9/11 military operations, including campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq. The surface warfare pin may be earned by United States Coast Guard personnel assigned to Navy commands.
Military medals are among the tributes occasionally left at the reflecting pools of the 9/11 Memorial. These medals were found on one of the South Pool panels listing victims from the New York City Police Department.
