- Description
- Plywood board covered in signatures and patches left by medics and Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMATs) stationed at Ground Zero. The board has a piece of plexiglass nailed to the front to cover and protect the signatures, patches, and other ephemera attached to the board. The notes, patches, and other ephemera are representative of DMATs from around the country.
- Historical Notes
- Disaster Medical Assistance Teams provide primary and acute care, triage of mass casualties, initial resuscitation and stabilization, advanced life support, and preparation of sick or injured patients for evacuation during a domestic disaster. One D-MAT consists of 35 people; it includes physicians, nurses, medical technicians, and ancillary support personnel. They can mobilize within six hours of notification and are capable of arriving at a disaster site within 48 hours. They can sustain operations for 72 hours without external support.
