Presentation Box
- Description
- Dark purple glass reliquary/presentation box with a distressed filigree metal outer frame and decorative claw feet. The box's lid opens on a soldered hinge with an interior chain attached to the lid and base. The box contains two shards of clear glass with a green hue and features an interior mirror. The pieces of glass stored within are significantly scratched and distressed with both rough and sharp edges, small dents, and dirt. Both pieces fill the box.
- Historical Notes
- FDNY Engine 59 firefighter Christopher Craven arrived at Ground Zero on the evening of September 11, 2001. Craven worked periodically during the recovery period from September through December 2001. Like many other recovery workers who participated in the cleanup operation, Craven retained mementos from his tours of duty on the site. In December 2001, Craven collected these pieces of glass from Ground Zero near the North Tower debris field. His mother provided him with a reliquary box for their storage.
