Design Plan
- Description
- Untitled foam core submission board designed for the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition in 2003. This design plan features a “Fountain of Light” made from a vertical beacon which houses a light, the unidentified remains, and inscribed names of the victims. Water runs down the illuminated structure, and a spiral ramp allows visitors to walk up and down its length. A program element of the design is a “Free Speech Scroll:” a spiral enclosure with paper-lined walls where visitors are invited to leave comments and record ideas. A blank scroll is reinstalled every year on the attacks' anniversary. In addition, monolith “Silk Screen Towers” display photographs, artworks, and text projected onto tower-height silk screens.
