Design Plan
This is Not a Memorial
- Description
- Foam core submission board designed for the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition in 2003 titled, “This is Not a Memorial.” This design plan proposes a pilgrimage shaped by the visitor's engagement rather than a focus on the physical architecture at the site. It centers around the idea that we are all connected; and therefore, the memorial is more about the people present at any given moment. At the North Tower footprint, visitors can leave their name, photo, and information about themselves at the “Place of Record.” The digital record becomes a part of the memorial database. The South Tower footprint is for remembering via the “Place of Recollection,” collects a digital record of every individual that visited the site and displays their connections to others.
