Remembering 9/11

Description

Foam core submission board designed for the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition in 2003, titled “Remembering 9/11.” This design plan incorporates three ideas: first, to preserve the original tower footprints by creating a “Forest of Voices” using steel flutes to represent each life lost. The hollow flutes play notes using natural air flow. Each flute is encircled with granite and bears an engraved victim name. The second element is a common space for all survivors that creates “Ripples of Life,” which are wave-like forms in grass which also serve as gathering places. Lights scattered throughout represent the children of the victims. Lastly, a, “Wall of Universal Language” would include engravings of historical quotes in a wide range of languages expressing peace and tolerance.
