Doll, Recovered
Little Red
- Description
- Textile rag doll with red yarn hair and red gingham dress, white collar, and black shoes. The doll is damaged and covered in fine gray dust.
- Historical Notes
- Brian Van Flandern, an emergency medical technician, volunteered at Ground Zero throughout the night of 9/11. The next morning, he noticed a doll in the rubble and searched in vain for a survivor or victim nearby. He later learned that the toy, known as Little Red, was the mascot of Chances for Children, a charity with offices located on the 101st floor of the North Tower.
