Wreath
New York Memorial Beaded Flower Wreath
- Description
- Oval-shaped floral wreath handmade from stems of French-beaded glass flowers.
- Historical Notes
- This wreath, composed of hundreds of beaded glass flowers, is dedicated to 9/11 victims who died at the World Trade Center and on Flights 11 and 175. It is one of three wreaths created to commemorate 9/11. Hundreds of donated stems of hand-beaded flowers were sent to the project's volunteer fabricators by beading hobbyists around the world.
Curator's Comment
In the 1990s, a small international community of beaded flower artists formed the Internet French Beaded Flower Group. After 9/11, members of the group suggested creating remembrance wreaths to show support for those affected most directly by the tragedy. Betty Listello and Diana Berns served as regional coordinators for the New York wreath.
