Hose Coupling, Recovered
- Description
- Recovered metal hose coupling.
- Historical Notes
-
In high-rise fires, firefighters carry lengths of hose coiled over their shoulders. Metal couplings connect these hose sections to form longer hoses as needed and to connect hoses to standpipes, which supply pressurized water.
The fires that burned for months at the World Trade Center site consumed hoses left behind. Only the metal couplings remained.
