Admission Ticket
- Description
- Paper admission ticket to the "Top of the World Trade Center Observatories" dated September 10, 2001 with an adult ticket price of $13.50. On the ticket is stamped in red "Roof Closed" along with some handwritten text and a small doodle. On the back is written: "Kamila: 917 733 0508."
- Historical Notes
- In September 2001, Canadian tourist Evan Kuz visited New York City. During his visit on September 10, while on the last boat back to Manhattan from Ellis Island, Kuz met a young woman named Kamila. The two tourists hit it off and decided to visit the World Trade Center’s Observation Deck together. They arrived late in the afternoon and stayed until shortly before closing. Due to the stormy weather, they agreed to return to the Observation Deck the following morning, September 11, in hopes the skies would be clear. Fortunately, both Kuz and Kamila were late that morning and both avoided the tragedy.
Curator's Comment
At 1,377 feet, the South Tower Observation Deck’s outdoor viewing platform was the highest in the world. On a clear day, one could see for 45 miles in each direction from the Observation Deck. On average, the Observation Deck attracted 1.8 million visitors per year. From the opening day of the Observation Deck in December 1975, through close of business the night of September 10, 2001, approximately 46,350,000 visitors experienced the views from the top of the South Tower.
