- Description
- Recovered black leather clutch-style purse belonging to Catherine Patricia Salter. The wallet is significantly damaged with encrusted dust and is warped from exposure to the elements. The metal clasp at the top is bent and rusted. Inside the wallet were coins, credit cards, and identification cards.
- Historical Notes
- Catherine Salter grew up in Wellsville, Ohio. She attended the University of Cincinnati and joined Aon Corporation’s Cincinnati branch in 1991. Catherine was promoted to assistant vice president in 2000 and transferred to New York. She settled in Brooklyn but kept ties to Ohio, visiting often and buying Cincinnati Reds season tickets. On September 11, she was on the South Tower’s 92nd floor. She was 37 years old.
Curator's Comment
Referred to as a “super aunt” by her 11 nieces and nephews, Catherine Salter remained close to family and friends in her native Ohio despite her transfer in 2000 from a local Aon Corporation office to the firm’s New York City branch. Her fondness for shopping, especially for designer pocketbooks, was noticeable to family and friends as well as to clients she met as assistant vice president. Recovered from the debris of Ground Zero, this clutch purse was returned to Catherine’s mother by the NYPD’s Property Recovery Unit.
