- Medal from a memorial race held on May 6, 2007, in memory of Martin J. Egan, Jr. The medal includes an emblem with text: "Remember Me With A Smile | In Memory of Martin Egan Jr. | Captain | F.D.N.Y. | 9-11-01." The lanyard the medal hangs from is white with the repeated word "RUN" in bold turquoise text and the repeated image of the winged feet of Mercury. On the back of the medal is the date "2007 Memorial Run."
- Historical Notes
- Lifelong Staten Island resident Martin Egan lived in Great Kills with his wife, Diane, and their two young children. A runner since high school, he participated in his first New York City Marathon in 2000. Martin was a 15-year FDNY veteran assigned to Ladder Company 118. Captain Egan was on administrative duty on September 11 and responded to the World Trade Center. He was 36 years old.
