- Description
- Irish penny belonging to Jeremiah Joseph Ahern. The bronze coin features a hen with five chicks on one side, with the Irish name for the coin. The reverse side features a harp, the word "Eire" on the left, and the date "1968" on the right.
- Historical Notes
- Born in the Bronx, Jeremiah Ahern lived in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, with his wife, Beatriz. The couple had a grown daughter. After serving in the U.S. Army, Jeremiah attended college and then joined the Internal Revenue Service, later becoming an auditor at the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. On September 11, Jeremiah was at his office on the 86th floor of the South Tower. He was 74 years old.
